Saint-Gobain Corporation, N.A. builds medical consumerism/wellness
Saint-Gobain Corporation, N.A. (SGC), like many companies, saw the writing on the wall many years ago and became concerned about employee health care costs. In 2003, SGC launched a multiyear health care strategy that involved the promotion of new programs and services and an increased effort to engage employees in the solution. SGC asked context to be its employee communication strategist, and today context continues to support SGC in the development and implementation of communication campaigns and multiple ongoing communications.
context works with SGC on strategy, program design, material development,
coordination with in-house design, and employee listening/measurement, including:
Three years into the implementation of SGC's strategy, employee enrollment in
the medical consumer-directed plan reached 11%, and enrollment in the pharmacy
plan reached 30%. A Hewitt Associates employee benefits survey found:

- Developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy for LiveWell, Saint-Gobain's wellness program.
- Designing multiple programs to raise the profile of LiveWell, such as the Saint-Gobain LiveWell Wellness Award, a competitive achievement award open to all North American Saint-Gobain locations.
- Creating programs and aids to build the manufacturing workforce's computer capability.
- Planning, designing, and writing BeneBits, the Corporate Benefits newsletter.
- Facilitating training sessions with site Human Resources representatives and volunteer wellness champions to provide them with the knowledge and capability to support corporate initiatives.
- Conducting regular employee listening exercises (surveys and focus groups) to gauge the impact on behavior change and to direct future communications.

- 55% of employees feel the amount of benefits information they have access to is just right.
